ABOUT MYSELF

Giving someone the hope of living and being healthy is the best thing anyone can offer. And Dr. Rafiq always wanted to be a person who treats others to be healthy and happy. After securing the merit position in SSC, he completed HSC from Notre Dame College. From a very young age he dreamt of becoming a doctor, he admitted for MBBS in Sir Salimullah Medical College and Hospital with his merit. In 2004 he successfully obtained his MBBS degree. After joining the 27th BCS Health Cadre in 2008, he held various position including Registrar of Medicine at Sir Salimullah Medical College, Dhaka Medical College and Sher-e-Bangla Medical College. After completing 2 years of post-graduate training in internal medicine from 2011 to 2013, in 2015 he joined post-graduation training in the Department of Medical Oncology of the National Cancer Research Institute and Hospital. Hospital. Then in 2017, he completed his MD degree in Medical Oncology with distinction from the National Cancer Research Institute and Hospital.

In 2019, he completed advanced training on medical oncology under the supervision of renowned medical oncologist Professor Dr Sudip Gupta of Tata Memorial Hospital, India. In the same year, Dr Rafiq took advanced training on palliative care under the direct supervision of renowned palliative care specialist Prof. Dr Cynthia Goh and Professor Dr Sushma Bhatnegar from Asia Pacific Hospice care Network (APHN).

Dr. Rafiq made some exclusive research on female lung cancer and presented at the annual conference of the European Society for Medical Oncology in Singapore in 2019 which won first place in Asia. In 2020, he obtained the International Development Award for Education (IDEA) Fellowship by the American Society of Clinical Oncology. In addition to attending various scientific seminars and conferences at home and abroad, he is an active member of international organizations such as the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and the European Respiratory Society (ERS). He is also currently the International Affairs Secretary of the Medical Oncology Society in Bangladesh (MOSB).

After serving as Registrar and Chief Medical Officer at the National Cancer Research Institute and Hospital, the only government specialized hospital for cancer patients in Bangladesh in 2018 he joined as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Oncology, he has been working tirelessly to ensure state-of-the-art treatment for cancer patients as well as provide higher education to cancer specialists. He is also regularly visiting Medinova Medical Services Mirpur Branch, Islami Bank Hospital Mirpur, BIHS General Hospital, Mirpur and Social Islamic Bank Limited Hospital as a Visiting Consultant for comprehensive cancer care as well as in Targeted Therapy, Immunotherapy, Chemotherapy Treatment and its side effects.
